Everybody Loves a Clown and "Shambala" by Three Dog Night

A couple of days ago, wikkidpixie sent me an email with a song. She's heard it on a commercial or something and it piqued her interest. She researched it a bit and found out it had played in an SPN episode, thus why she sent it to me.

The song is "Shambala" by Three Dog Night and it plays in Everybody Loves a Clown.

The music used in Supernatural often is meaningful and as this is an important scene, it's no different. The Shambala wiki page says:

The lyrics refer to a situation where kindness and cooperation are universal, joy and good fortune abound, and psychological burdens are lifted. While the lyrics include the refrain "in the halls of Shambala", much of the song actually refers to "the road to Shambala", perhaps alluding to the idea of Shambala not as a physical place but as a metaphor for the spiritual path one might follow.

That is so flat-out SIGNIFICANT for the place Sam and Dean are in during this scene that it just...it makes my heart ACHE.

Here's the (edited) version of the TWOP recap of that scene:

Wash away my troubles, wash away my painCollapse )

And then? They go to the Roadhouse for the very first time.

Twelve screencaps from the scene where the song plays:

I can tell my brother by the flowers in his eyesCollapse )

Lyrics to the song (think about Sam and Dean when you read them):

How does your light shine, in the halls of ShambalaCollapse )

This is what makes this show good to me. THIS RIGHT HERE. When all the layers just come together to form a big, impactful, significant, meaningful storyline. I haven't seen this episode in months and months and as soon as I remembered, I was just INSTANTLY transported back to that place and to how that scene made me feel the very first time I saw it.

I'm ready now. I'm ready for the final four episodes of Season Two. I'm ready to feel this emotional attachment to My Boys again. I have been reminded that Sam and Dean are READY to follow their path...physically, emotionally and spiritually. To maybe, eventually, find a place of peace.

I'm ready for the heartache that's coming. Bring it on Kripke. BRING THE PAIN because I am ready.
