starting again

Well, here we are! January 1, 2011. 1/1/11. EXCITING!

I love this quote and use it on my email signature so I'm forced to see it a zillion times a day:

"There will come a time when you believe everything is finished. That will be the beginning."
--Louis L'Amour

I'm also rather fond of this one:

"They always say time changes things, but you actually have to change them yourself."
--Andy Warhol

This year I decided not to make resolutions in January. Instead, I made 38 Goals to complete during my 38th year. Two months have passed and I've made some progress, but already am feeling stagnant.

So, here's what I'm doing in January to kick-start life again:

  • I filled out all the online information to get registered with a temp agency. I left the woman a voice mail about setting up an in-person meeting, so the ball is in her court. (I have resisted doing this for about six months now. I'm not sure what my mental block was about it, but it was there. And now, I'm here.)

  • Downloaded the application to volunteer for my local library. (I did this briefly in 2009 and didn't have a great experience. But, I'm going to try again.)

  • Sent my transcripts and such to a place that does teacher certification classes. (To be honest, I know I don't want to teach. But, it's momentum and doing something, so...)

  • Registered to walk in the Cowtown 5k on February 26.

  • I had a goal to clear my To Be Read bookmarks by Janaury 1, and that just did not happen. I have had so much fun working on it though! So much amazing fic. I have a loooong rec post for tomorrow. I will keep trying!

  • Made plans to start a creative project that is really a stretch for me. I am scared and excited. Both.

I had a mental plan for doing increased exercise in January, but now I'm here on the day I actually have to start and am feeling wibbley about it...we'll see how that goes as the day progresses.

Here's to an awesome 2011 y'all! *raises glass* I am so thankful to know everyone whose eyes are passing over this entry. Livejournal has brought so many amazing people into my life and I am forever grateful to know you all, and to be able to experience so many strong, smart, creative, inspiring individuals. My life would suck without you.

"We have all known loneliness, and we have learned that the only solution is love, and that love comes with community."
