Olympics Time!

Olympics TONIGHT y'all! I am super excited. But my enthusiasm was ramped up even MORE by seeing this article on EW.com today:

20 Olympic Athlete Stories to Know

Among other things, it introduces a legally blind archer, an Olympian competing while eight months pregnant, a Kenyan refugee, an Ethiopian refugee who trained for the marathon by practicing in a mile-long tunnel built for sewage pipes, a 37-year old gymnast competing in her sixth Olympics, a 71-year old Japanese equestrian who is the oldest person competing in London, a nearly-deaf diver, an Olympic skeet shooter who used the same rifle in four Olympic games until it was stolen from her...but found by police in 2009, a javelin thrower from Kenya who had no one to mentor him so he learned by watching YouTube videos in an internet cafe...it just goes on and Every. Single. One. is AMAZING.

That piece also includes this quote, which is revolutionary, and I hope more people pick up on it: Per the IOC announcement, "Fifteen years ago at the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games, 26 [National Olympic Committees] had yet to include female athletes in their delegations. Four years ago in Beijing, the figure had dropped to just three — the three NOCs have confirmed they will be sending female athletes to London 2012, thus marking a historic milestone in Olympic history."
